What Is Brainspotting Therapy?

Brainspotting therapy is a type of trauma-focused therapy that was developed by Dr. David Grand in 2003. It’s based on the idea that certain eye positions can help access and process buried emotions. When these emotions are processed, BSP therapy can help to release them from the body.

Traditional talk therapy is described as a “top-down” therapy and aims to address issues with the conscious mind. Brainspotting, on the other hand, is one of a handful of new treatments that focus on the relationship between the brain and the body, such as Somatic Experiencing and EMDR.

These therapies are based on the idea that trauma is not just stored in the mind, but in the body as well. This is why BSP therapy focuses on targeting specific parts of the brain and visual field to help release trapped emotions.

How Does Brainspotting Work?

Brainspotting works by targeting specific points in the brain, including the autonomic and limbic systems, that are associated with trauma and stress. Your therapist will help the client to identify these brain spots during a therapy session, and then use a variety of techniques to help the client to process and release the negative emotions that are associated with them.

While this is still a relatively new therapy, there is growing evidence that it can be an effective treatment for trauma, anxiety, and other mental health issues.

People report feeling more relief after brainspotting therapy sessions than after other types of therapy, and many say that it has helped them to finally heal from traumas that they had not been able to process before.

BSP affects how you feel by directly targeting the brain spots that are associated with your trauma. It can help you to finally release emotions that have been stuck in your body for years.

Who Is Brainspotting Therapy For?

Brainspotting is a type of therapy that can be beneficial for people who have experienced trauma. It is based on the premise that there are certain points in the brain that are linked to traumatic memories.

By identifying and focusing on these points, BSP therapy can help to release the emotions and memories that are associated with them.

This can be a very effective treatment for people who have post-traumatic stress disorder or who suffer from anxiety and depression. Brainspotting sessions can also be used to treat physical pain, as well as emotional pain.

It is a safe and non-invasive therapy that can provide relief from a wide variety of issues. If you think Brainspotting might be right for you, please reach out to our team of experts who will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.
